Polyurethane rollers are constructed with bearings and a steel shaft typically mounted inside a steel or aluminium cylinder, which is coated with a layer of polyurethane (PU / PUR). The PU surface is available in different colours and hardness grades, providing excellent friction and grip to the product. Compared to traditional rubber, polyurethane offers superior wear resistance, higher load capacity, and more consistent mechanical properties over time. It also provides improved resistance to oils, chemicals, and environmental influences, resulting in longer service life and reduced maintenance. For outdoor applications, UV-resistant polyurethane grades are available upon request. Although often compared to rubber, polyurethane is a fully synthetic material and no longer originates from natural sources such as rubber (Kautschuk) or historical materials like Gutta-percha once used in early cable applications. While these natural materials played an important role in the development of the industry, polyurethane represents modern polymer engineering, offering controlled and repeatable performance where natural materials fall short.
